Social-Distancing-Friendly Breakaway

The light of dawn has arrived, and with it, a brand new day. A day to cherish and be thankful for; while COVID-19 has impacted our lives and how we experience life on a daily basis, it no longer has to infringe on our favourite pastime of travelling. Escaping to wide open spaces in the heart of nature, to a favourite self-catering Chalet, makes for the perfect social-distancing-friendly breakaway.

The year 2020 has been a whirlwind of stress and difficult circumstances and while lockdown restrictions have been eased, the importance of social-distancing, mask-wearing and sanitisation has not put travellers at ease. With this being said, and as our borders reopen and the tourism industry wakes from slumber, the importance of taking time to process stress and allow relaxation cannot be understated. Well-deserved time off is the perfect remedy to rebalance the soul; take the time to plan a breakaway from the hustle and bustle of city-living and choose a destination that has your health and safety in mind.

Here are the reasons why Doornkop Fish & Wildlife Reserve makes for the perfect social-distancing-friendly breakaway:

Spacious Accommodation

The journey to Doornkop is enough to set the tone for relaxation as the busy city and crowded public spaces are left in the rear-view and the sprawling countryside of Mpumalanga unfolds ahead. Travelling from the Doornkop entrance along a winding path and past Reception, guests quickly notice the Chalets, dotted along the riverbanks and fishing dams. Each Chalet was designed to provide ample space and privacy for occupants; manicured lawns stretch between the thatch-rooved accommodations and the eight, large dams offer plenty of space for fisherfolk and families to enjoy the outdoors and fresh air. Each Chalet also offers a private boma or braai patio, so that guests may enjoy the highly regaled pastime of braaing in the evening, accompanied by the sounds of the Mpumalanga wilderness.

Self-Catering Amenities

While the patio and braai facilities offer the backdrop to the evenings’ entertainment, each Chalet also boasts well-equipped accommodation for comfort and relaxation. The Chalets each have a fully-equipped kitchen with fridge, stove, dishwasher and microwave to make mealtimes feel homely. The dining area is suited to the number of guests per Chalet, as is the lounge, which also boasts DSTV; though guests are welcome to bring along their favourite books and board games for indoor entertainment. Staying at Doornkop is a home-away-from-home experience, which offers every homely comfort alongside a unique environment to be enjoyed.

Health and Safety as a Priority

As part of Doornkop’s commitment to providing a safe holiday environment, the Resort has employed additional health and safety measures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. These include sanitisation measures and enforcing social-distancing parameters at all times. When arriving at the Resort, guests’ temperatures are recorded and precautionary documentation is completed. At the Chalet guests will notice the HygienicHospitality seal on the door, which sets your mind at ease that no other person has entered the unit once deep sanitisation has been completed. Guests are required to wear masks when making use of public areas and are encouraged to sanitise their hands regularly. Further health and safety protocols, which form part of HygienicHospitality , can be viewed on VRS-Managing Agent’s website.

It’s time to take a social-distancing-friendly breakaway back into nature’s embrace; return to a safe holiday environment where unspoilt countryside stretches and rolls in every direction and where your safety is the number one priority: Doornkop Fish & Wildlife Reserve.
