With the increase in COVID-19 cases in South Africa and the recent surge within Gauteng, the government has issued more stringent regulations in terms of amendments to the Regulations issued in terms of section 27(2) of the Disaster Management Act, 2002 applicable to Alert Level 3 (“Regulations”). Kindly be advised that due to this most recent presidential address and the new regulations to be enforced, that leisure travel is not permitted under level 3 regulations. Last night, on the 24th of May 2020, President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the nation with plans to slowly reopen the economy by phasing into level 3 of the 5 level risk-adjusted strategy from the 01st of June 2020. While this is a step in the right direction to return to normal operations, kindly note that, as part of the tourism and hospitality sector, Doornkop Fish & Wildlife Reserve will remain closed to the public. South African Tourism Minister, Nkhensani Kubayi-Ngubane, has informed the sector that lodging and accommodation must remain closed, under government regulation, until the phasing in of level 1.
The Doornkop team believes that self-catering Resorts are perfect for social-distancing-friendly holidays. Families can prepare their meals and enjoy each other’s company in the comfort of their own space and accommodation. While the Doornkop team stands with other key tourism industry properties to allow self-catering holidays to reopen, we remain committed to providing a safe and secure environment for shareholders and guests to return to and will continue to monitor the on-going communications to reopen the tourism sector sooner. As addressed in his speech, the President mentioned the collective proposals being considered, which have been put forth by the tourism sector to prepare and reopen the industry. While we do not yet know when this will be, our hope remains that we will be able to welcome you to the Reserve soonest.
We thank you for your support and patience as we navigate these trying times.

In accordance with the presidential address on the 23rd of April 2020, Doornkop Fish & Wildlife Reserve will be adhering to the nationwide lockdown and will remain closed to the public, until it is deemed safe and appropriate to return to normal operations. As per the 5-level-risk-adjusted strategy imposed by the South African government, the tourism industry, as informed by Minister Nkhensani Kubayi-Ngubane, will only be allowed to reopen at Level 1. This will mean that the Reserve will, at this stage, be allowed to welcome check-ins after the lockdown has been lifted.
Doornkop Fish & Wildlife Reserve is working diligently in this time to prepare the Reserve for reopening, implementing viable management solutions for the safety of all our guests. We humbly ask for your patience in regards to service levels as we navigate this challenging time together.
Our visit to Doornkop Fish and Wildlife Reserve was everything and more! The views from our bedrooms were spectacular, and the sound of water from the river in the mornings and evenings was amazing. We tried identifying the birds and animals from the balcony area while enjoying coffee and chatting. The fireplace made our conversations and lounging very cosy. Our hike was a bit of a challenge, however, the waterfall was a great reward. We are currently planning our summer visit.
